Last

The last post of the year.

Bye 2012 and welcome 2013.  Let's pray for a better year for everyone of us in the earth.  GBU.

Image from google

I will back to work as usual on 2 January 2013 because Maine has assured me that she will be fine in kindergarten.  But I will stay up to 8.45am to ensure that she is fine before goes to office.

Sayonara

Today is the last day of 2012.  Any celebration to bid farewell for 2012 and welcome 2013 ? I just want a quiet night with my beloved family.  A simple dinner at home will be a blessed one for us.  No special dinner, just a simple home cooked food.

Actually we had early new year dinner with our 2 lovely girls last Saturday at Sunway Pyramid.  We had a wonderful time together.

Maine posing her kid's meal.  Dinner at Garden Lifestyle Store & Cafe
Seafood spaghetti.  Cyn's meal

Yesterday, we sneaked into our new house to take the measurement of the window so that I can start to shop for curtain.  Measurement for the room and hall also taken to ensure that the furniture we bought will be able to fix in.  Plan to shop for material for curtain tomorrow so that my mum can start sewing it before she is off for holiday for 2 months.  Will head to Nagoya in Tesco Klang for the curtain shopping.

Recap 2012

Today is 29 Dec 2012 and also the last Saturday for this year.  To recap what happen this year, I think this year is not a good year for me.  I suppose to get the new key to my new house but it is still not done.  Still waiting & waiting.  Even thought I changed job mid of the year, but I find that it is not as good as I thought. But life has to go on.

There are so many FIRST time for me this year.  Some of them are like ....

1) Got my passport :)
2) Went overseas - Medan, Indonesia for our 2nd honeymoon
3) Went to Singapore for the very 1st time (don't laugh, ok).  I went there twice in a week.
4)  Boarded on ambulance in Singapore. Refer to my post here

and many more but I think that the above few is the most unforgettable one for me :)

I hope for a better year in 2013 and I believe that's everyone's wish.

I think 2013 will be a busy year for me. Cyn is sitting for her UPSR, mum is going back to hometown for few months so I will have to manage on my own.  We are expected to get the key of the house after CNY.  So now we already start to survey some of the furniture and electrical items which needs to replace.  We are expected to start minor renovation after CNY.  I will be going back to hometown next year for Ching Ming.

Those are some of my plans for 2013.

To celebrate the end of 2012, the year of dragon....we will bring the girls for shopping and nice dinner tonight before we welcomed 2013.

Another movie - CZ12

We went for movie again with our daughters last Saturday.  We are actually not sure whether to bring Maine for the movie or not because we worried that she might not enjoyed the movie as we are watching Jackie Chan action movie - CZ 12.  But finally we decided to let her tag along to enjoy her popcorn while we watched the movie.  To our surprise, she enjoyed the movie as we do.  I am not sure how far she enjoyed the movie, but she said the movie is nice and funny.  Most important thing is she never asked for toilet break.  She just complained that she was sleepy towards the end of show which is almost 12 midnight.

This movie is Jackie Chan last action movie.  I have been watching his movie since I was young and I grown up with his movie because my eldest brother is his fanatic fan.  So, he introduced his movie to me.  I will never get bored watching his movie over and over again.

For those who have yet to watch this movie, go and watch it now !

Trip to Genting

This is an overdue post !!!

We went to Genting on 9 Dec 2012. We went on Sunday and came back on Monday.  Take this opportunity to bring our 2 girls for a short holiday break since Tuesday is Public Holiday in Selangor.  This time we took bus and then cable car.  A bit tiring but a new experience for our girls.  I bought the 1 day unlimited ride for Indoor Theme park for 4 of us online and it costs us RM92 for 4.  We stayed for a night at First World Hotel and I actually got a complimentary room for my birthday last month.  That's one of the reason we went to Genting :)...since the stay is free.

The girls really enjoyed themselves to the maximum.  I was accompanying Cyn for the Euro Express ride and I almost cried after boarding it.  So scary man !!! Maine enjoyed her bumper car ride and I think she took at least 4-5 rides.  Cyn was also enjoying her bumper car at the adult section with her dad.

Happy Dongzhi Festival 冬至快乐!

Happy Dongzhi Festival

冬至快乐!

Went home for lunch just now and had a bowl of tang yuan made by my 2 girls.  So sweet of them.  They are excited this morning.  I wake them up this morning before I left for work and I told them that I will be home for their tang yuan during lunch.

Today is not the end of the world as speculated but it is definitely Dongzhi festival for us to gather with our loves one.  So, have you taken your tang yuan ?

Steamed glutinous rice 糯米饭

I made this steamed glutinous rice last night.  It is so easy to make and the ingredients are also easily available.

Let's see the recipe.

Ingredients
1kg glutinous rice (wash and soak at least 4 hours or more)
2 shallots, peeled & sliced thinly
5 cloves of garlic, peeled & chopped finely
40g dried prawns, wash & soaked
2 chinese sausages, cut into cubed, (optional)
10 dried mushrooms, soaked and cut into cubed
400ml water (at least cover the surface of the rice)

Seasoning:
2 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tsp salt, or to taste
1tbsp sugar

Method :

1. Heat the oil in a wok and fry the shallot & garlic over medium heat, fry till crispy and golden brown. Dish out and set aside to cool.
2. Use the remaining shallot oil in the wok. Over medium heat, stir-fry the dried prawns, chinese sausages and mushroom until aromatic.
3. Add in the drained glutinous rice, and add in the seasoning. Stirring and mix well for 3-5 mins.
4. Transfer the rice into a steaming tray, sprinkle water on top of the rice. (The water level must be at the same level as the rice)

Lunch

Ever since I joined this new company which is about 1km away from my house, I am going for lunch almost everyday unless there are some makan activities in the office.

I enjoyed the moment to be at home especially now during the school holiday.  My 2 girls will be welcoming me at home. Cyn will opened the gate for me and Maine will welcome me with her smile.  When I leaving home after lunch, both of them will say goodbye to me.  I am like in the heaven.

Being at home is always the best.

New look

December is here and 2012 is coming to the end. 2012 marked the 12th year we tied our knot. 2012 also is the first time I traveled overseas (so jakun right).  We go for our 2nd honeymoon in 2012.  There are so many things to list on happening in 2012.  There are still another 30 days in 2012 and I will enjoy it to the fullest.

I change my blog background and the blog title photo.  The photo is taken in my hometown, Miri Sarawak.

Happy weekend to all.

Hakka Yong Taufu

I love taufu...i mean all sorts of taufu but one of my favorite is Hakka Yong Taufu.  Besides taufu, I will normally also make stuffed brinjals, lady fingers and one of Cyn's favourite - bitter gourd.
My hubby dislike taufu (or we called it tau kua because taufu is referred to the softer version) but he likes tau pok.  So, I will also make some tau pok for him.

Bitter gourd - Cyn can finish half of this in one meal.

This is the taufu

and tau pok for my hubby

Hakka Yong Taufu
(Source from cynmainemum.blogspot.com)

Ingredients :

5 pcs of Taufu (cut into half to make it triangle)
500gm of minced meat (I usually used pork)
1 small piece of salted fish (I will use ikan tenggiri) - cut about 1 - 1.5 cm
200gm of fresh fish paste (ikan tenggiri also)
1 tbsp of corn flour
salt
pepper
Enough cooking oil for frying

Method :

1) Heat the wok and fried the taufu till golden brown
2) Fried the salted fish. Use only the flesh
3) Next, mixed the minced meat, fish paste and salted fish with the corn flour
4) Add in the seasoning and mixed well
5) Now, you can stuff the meat mixture in the taufu
6) As I mentioned earlier, you can also use tau pok, brinjal, lady finger and bitter gourd
7) Arranged in a plate a steam for 20 minutes.
8) For the vegetable version, I will normally fried it first before steaming / cooking it.

New House

I am still waiting for the key to my new house. From mid of the year till end of the year, I am still waiting.  The latest news is before Chinese New Year.  The developer said they are waiting for the relevant authority approval.  We managed to sneak in last weekend to snap some photos.

This is the entrance.  The door is locked therefore we visited our neighbour on the left.
We actually planned to move in before CNY but look like we have to defer our plan.  The TNB meter is up and now waiting for SYABAS meter.  It is a double storey house and the size is 20 x 65.

Will have more updates on my new house soon.

Standard 6

Cyn is 12 years old next year and will be sitting for UPSR.  Her school has this extra classes during coming holiday for all the student sitting for UPSR.

Her school holiday starts on this Friday and the extra classes start on 19 - 30 November 2012 for 2 weeks. Yesterday I was surprised by her transporter when she told me she can't fetch her during her extra classes and she will arranged another transporter.  Fair ! I paid her full this month i.e. RM 100 for only 6 schooling days.  So, the other transporter called me last night to inform me that she will charge me RM60 for the 2 weeks.  RM30 for each week.  I was shocked !  That's mean I have to pay RM160 in total.

I tried to negotiate with the 2nd transporter that I will send her in the morning and I just need someone to fetch after school.  She said the charge is the same whether it is one way or 2 way. WTH !
They really cut throat.

I have discussed with hubby and we agreed that he will send her in the morning and I will picked her up from school during my lunch time.  Solve the problem.  It is not that I am too stingy and want to save that RM60 but I think the charges is too ridiculous.  So now, she lost one customer for charging too much.

Children's day celebration

Today is Maine's kindy children's day celebration.  Everyone have to bring one type of food for the celebration.  I only got to know about it on Sunday night as I didn't read her message book.  I was thinking the whole day yesterday on what to cook for her to bring.  I don't want her to bring junk food even thought the children love it.

After cracking my head, I decided to do a simple skewer for her to bring.  I bought one packet of Ayamas sausages and 2 packets of fishball from the supermarket nearby last night.  To make it healthy and less mess for the children, I steamed all the item instead of frying it.

Below is the outcome and Maine is so happy with it.

I alternate the sausage and fishball with a small cube of cucumber

Cyn had her children day celebration last month and she just requested to buy some drinks for the celebration.  But she requested me to cook Red Bean Dessert for her Canteen Day end of last month.  She is so happy because her pot of red bean sold out so fast.

My birthday celebration

Another post about my birthday. Boringnyer....

My birthday was a quite one this year at my new office.  But one of my colleague surprised me with singing me birthday song once I entered my office. So sweet of her..  I was craving for KFC for weeks, therefore I told myself I must have KFC for my lunch (at my own expense).  To be exact, I am craving for this :-
KFC Zinger Double Down Special Combo Deal 2012
Image credited to google.com
So, I quickly go and fetch Maine from her kindy during my lunch and headed to KFC which is nearby my house.  I ordered this KFC Zinger double down for myself and 2 sets of rice for my mum and 2 lovely daughters.

I was surprised with another lunch after I nicely enjoyed the double down.  My staff gave me a McDonald set lunch.  Wah...mcm mana nak makan....I just finished the drink and brought back the fries and burger for the kids at home.

Hubby bought 3 slices of cakes from Secret Recipes.  So, there is no candles for me this year.

Hubby dinner treat is on Saturday.  He brought me to Windmill Restaurant at Subang Jaya.  The dinner was superb.  He used to bring me to this restaurant before married but we used to patron the one in Bukit Raja.  Therefore, we thought to give this branch a try.  Enjoy the photos.
Bread & Butter.  The best combination and I love the bread so much.
Mushroom soup and shrimp cocktail.
My dinner.  Tiger prawn with cheese and garlic with grilled chicken with black pepper sauce.  Yummy

Hubby's dinner.  Grilled fish fillet with beef steak.  The steak is so tender.

Dessert and coffee.

We ordered their monthly promotion which comes with all the above with 3 main course to choose from and a free gift.  We got mug as our free gift.  RM59.90++ for each set.  I had an enjoyable dinner with him.  After dinner, we went for our favourite movie - James Bond 007 Skyfall.  The movie was great.  Overall I had a wonderful weekend with him.  Love him forever.  No words could describe our love.

Selamat Hari Raya Haji and Happy Holiday

I would like to wish all Selamat Hari Raya Haji and happy long weekend to all.  3 days holiday...what to do?

I have a wedding dinner to attend on Sunday at Sekinchan....Wah ! Sekinchan ! The dinner starts at 5pm and according to my friend, we have to leave Klang at 3pm. Wah ! Besides this, I have no other plan.  Maybe not going anywhere because my little Maine is having exam on Monday.  Wah, sound so serious, right ? EXAM....anyway, she is only 4 yrs old.  Take it easy Mum.  Will just do simple revision with her at home during the weekend.

Enjoy your holiday too...

Trip to Singapore

September is a busy month for my family.  The reason being is my sister got married.  Then why I am so busy body ?  She is getting married at Singapore and she just migrated there few months ago.  Therefore, she needs our help here to buy some of the wedding stuff.  So, every weekend we will bring my mum around the town for shopping and of course, we shop for our clothing also to attend her wedding.

I was extremely busy on the last week of the month where I was on leave most of the days.  My eldest brother came from Sarawak and I took one day off to fetch him from airport and bring him for last minutes shopping.  Her wedding is on Wednesday and the dinner is held on Saturday.   My mum, elder brother & youngest went to Singapore on Tuesday morning and I went with my little Maine on Tuesday night after work.  My hubby & Cyn are not joining us for her wedding session.  I came to KL on the next day and continue working on Thursday.  Some of you may think why I have to rush ?  The reason is I can't get leave and I was on unpaid leave.

I went to Singapore again on Friday morning with hubby, Cyn & Maine.  We touched down at Changi Airport at about 12noon.  My sister and her father in law were already there waiting for us.  We went straight to our hotel in Balestair Road.  Mum and 2 brothers were there waiting for us as they just arrived from JB.  They went to JB and stayed there for 1 night.  After checking in, we went for our lunch at the nearby food court called Whampoa Food Court about 10 minutes walking from our hotel.  After lunch we went to Chinatown for sight seeing.  We also bought some souvenirs for our friends in Malaysia.

On the second day of our arrival, we were brought to Bugis Street and nearby shopping complex.  Then we proceed to Merlion park.  The scenery was so beautiful.  It was just half day tour because we have to get back to the hotel to get ourselves ready for the dinner that night.  I managed to get my hair wash & blow at the saloon nearby our hotel.  It charged my SGD 9.80, is it reasonable ?  Dinner was at Yan Palace Restaurant in Chinatown.  I rate the food 7/10 and the environment 7/10 and the service 9/10.

On our 3rd day, we went to Sentosa but we didn't go to Universal because my little Maine is not ready for all the excitement.  Plan for next trip when she is bigger.  We spend almost whole half day in Sentosa till the kids complained that they are tired.  We moved to another hotel on the 3rd day which is nearer to airport.

The thrill comes on the 3rd day.  Mum was complaining of not feeling well after dinner.  She said she was very tired at the food court and said want to go back to the hotel for a rest.  However, when she wanted to move, she fainted and luckily my sister, brother in law & eldest brother were there to hold her.  She was semi conscious after that and we brought her to the clinic nearby by cab.  She was conscious when we bring to clinic and she response to our questions. Waited for the doctor for about 30 minutes and she claimed that she was very sleepy and just wanted to sleep.  The doctor said nothing much he can do and he called an ambulance.  Ambulance arrived after 10 minutes and she was sent to Changi General Hospital at about 9.30pm.  I was with in the ambulance.  In the hospital, they CT Scan, blood test and ECG on her and all tested to be OK.  We were there (only my sister, her husband and me) for almost 5 hours.  Doctor allowed to discharge her because I told the doctor that we are going back to Malaysia the next day.   She was fine and was conscious when we brought her back.  She woke up fine the next day.

We check out at about 8am and headed straight to airport as our flight to KL is 12.30pm.  It is really an enjoyable and unforgettable experience spending 5 hours in Changi GH.

Will post some photos soon.

Sambal Udang Petai

Petai or stinky bean !  It is either you love it or you hate it.  My hubby hates petai and he won't consume petai at all but Cyn loves it so much.  So, I cooked sambal udang petai yesterday for dinner and Cyn ate 2 plates of rice.

Sambal Udang Petai
(Source from cynmainemum.blogspot.com)

Homemade Sambal
20 dry red chilies (soak in water before grinding)
5 shallot (skin peeled and sliced)
5 cloves of garlic (skin peeled)
Belacan (a size of your thumb)
5 tbsp of cooking oil

Method
1) Blend all the ingredients
2) Heat oil in a wok and pour in the blended ingredients.
3) Cook till the oil separated from the mixture.
4) Cool and store for future use

This my multi purpose sambal which I also used for my laksa sarawak.

Sambal Udang Petai
30pcs of prawn (shelled and deveined)
1 cup peeled petai
1 tbsp of homemade sambal (add more if you like more spicy).  I used less sambal because Cyn can't eat too spicy.
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp tamarind pulp (mixed with 1/2 cup water & strained)
2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 onion cut into ring

Method
1) Heat up cooking oil, add in the homemade sambal and stir-fry until fragrant.
2) Add in the onion & fry for a while
3) Add in the prawn & continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes. Now, you can add in the petai.
4) Lastly add in tamarind juice, bringing it to a quick boil. Add in salt and sugar.
